Galaxy S6 Plus Shows Samsung Has Learned Nothing
More details on Samsung’s next iteration for the S6 family have been reported by noted internet tipster @onleaks. The current leak on the Samsung Galaxy S6 Plus follows previous information about the oversized version of the Galaxy S6 Edge (Forbes’ Gordon Kelly has more on the S6 Plus and the S6 Mini leaks) and confirms details on the sizing. But it also shines a light on Samsung’s hubris in the smartphone market.
The external dimensions are reported as 154.45 x 75.80 x 6.85 mm. This would suggest that the Galaxy S6 Plus is going to ship with a 5.5 inch screen (both the S6 and S6 Edge shipped with a 5.1 inch screen, although the Galaxy S6 Edge naturally had that bent over due to the curved edges. Those curved edges are also present on the Galaxy S6 Plus. The leaked render, alongside pictures of dummy units used to help third-party accessory designers, also shows a standard microUSB port, as opposed to a larger USB It also appears that Samsung is going to supply the S6 Edge Plus with the Snapdragon 808 CPU. The original Galaxy S6 Edge shipped withThe switch back to Qualcomm, after dropping the chip supplier for the S6 and S6 Edge is an interesting one and I look forward to the head-to-head benchmarking sure to occur. Returning to an external supplier for this key component will drive up the build cost of the S6 Edge Plus, but it’s worth noting that the S6 family was the first time Samsung had supplied handsets with the Exynos system outside of its home territory in any significant volume.
The Snapdragon 808 powers the LG G4 handset, which has generally not been the match of the Exynos powered Galaxy S6 when tested alongside each other. While the S6 Plus may be larger than the S6 and S6 Edge, there’s every chance that it will be slower than the parent handsets.
